Welcome to the Pioneer Village

Pioneerland is located at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds, LaPorte, Indiana.  It's inception began in 1995 as part of the LaPorte County Fair 150th Anniversary.  Since it's beginning, Pioneerland has grown to include:

  • log cabin
  • blacksmith shop
  • antique post & beam barn
  • one room school house
  • post office
  • general store
  • farm bureau cabin
  • pioneer heritage garden
  • outdoor cooking kitchen
  • quilter's cabin
  • artisan barn
  • wash house

The entire village was funded and is operated by volunteers.  The village depicts the 1800-1840's time period.  It's in full operation during the LaPorte Country Fair (the first full week in July), and for school tours the last weeks of May and the last two weeks of September.  It's also open the first weekend in December and for special events as requested.  The events include bus tours, church groups, weddings, etc.  NOTE: All buildings are handicap accessible.

Monday, 22 June 2009
Our new Artisan Barn has been built which hosted demonstrators in the crafts of chair caning, pottery, dulcimer making, candle making, old time printing press, gourd utensil making, woodworking during this years County Fair.    The barn is post and beam construction built by Amish builders.

At this time the committee is still seeking donations for the construction of the barn.

The barn cost is $120,000.  Through past fundraising the committee has accumulated two thirds of the money needed for the project.  Your support for the Pioneer Land Heritage Artisan Barn would be appreciated.  Donations can be mailed to:  Dick Reel, 0091 W. Powell Dr., LaPorte, In. 46350.  Checks can be made out to LaPorte Co. Thank you in advance for your support.

The pictures were taken during the construction and at this years Laporte County Fair.  Enjoy.
